Francis Type Turbine-Generator Unit

Generator Unit: These turbines are used for medium heads. Francis turbines are radial flow reaction turbines. They have fixed number of runner blades. Their guide vanes are adjustable. Francis turbines can be installed in an open flume or they can be connected to a penstock. Open flumes are usually used in case of small heads and power. In case of higher heads, steel spiral casings are utilized. While the small runners are encased in the aluminum bronze casings the large ones are created from steel plates (curved).
