The China facility, completed on December 17, is the largest of its kind outside of the US and represents a $150-million capital investment. It is now the location of its previous hub in Subic Bay, Philippines. The transfer is inevitable since the market in China is bigger than the entire market of Southeast Asia. China also gave FedEx rights to handle its domestic cargo.
Located at the International Baiyun Airport at Guangzhou in the Pearl River Delta, the hub provides access to more than 220 countries for FedEx. Each week, 136 flights will arrive at and depart from the new hub, the company said in a statement. The hub features its own ramp control tower, high-speed sorting lines and customs offices.
The China’s Baiyun International Airport in Guangzhou would be the main hub of FedEx in the Asia-Pacific region. The new FedEx Asia-Pacific hub will be the largest facility of its kind outside of the US and represents a $150-million capital investment.
China’s Baiyun International Airport in Guangzhou will be the “ center point of FedEx Asia Pacific operations for the next 30 years.’
