President Hu says new consensus reached with African leaders

Hu Jintao, in his call for China and Africa to enhance mutual trust and political, economic, and cultural ties, said that China is ready to enhance coordination with Africa in promoting the development of the agreements laid out in the 2006 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.

Chinese President Hu Jintao said, « The friendship between China and Africa has lasted for half a century. Similar histories and goals connect us strongly. I reiterate that the Chinese people will forever cherish the traditional friendship with the African people. The Chinese people will continue to regard the African people as their trustworthy and reliable friends. We will be brothers and friends forever! « 

On the part of one of the continent’s leaders, Tanzanian President, Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, said China continuously and unconditionally supports Tanzania and other African nations in need.

Hu said he reached new consensus with African leaders during his ongoing visit to Africa and said that China will actively support African countries in developing their economies.

« During my African visit, I had in-depth discussions with leaders of related countries on bilateral relations and issues of common concern, and we reached a number of new and important consensus, » Hu said while giving an interview to Tanzanian State Television and Hong Kong-based Phoenix TV.

This is the president’s sixth visit to Africa and his second since the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in 2006.

After visiting Saudi Arabia, the four-country African tour takes Hu to Mali and Senegal, Tanzania and Mauritius before flying back home on Tuesday ( Feb 17).
